2008-2009 Season Awards Banquet E-mail

Congratulations to the 2008-2009 team award recipients - Kevin McCarthy (Most Valuable Forward), J. Michael Morelli (Most Valuable Back), Tyler Perez (Woody Bennet Coaches Choice Award), Anthony Newbold (ORSU Most Improved Player), Mitch Fargher (Grant Patton Outstanding First Year Player Award), and Zach Heath (Wayne Valley Most Inspirational Player Award).  Winners are voted on by players and coaches at the end of each season.  Learn more about the history of each trophy and view a full list of previous award winners in our About Us section.

A beautiful day, great turnout, lots of good food and a wonderful opportunity to meet other rugby friends and relatives.  Having Coach share some of the history behind the awards certainly gave us a healthy appreciation for the caliber of players that earn these distinctions.

Each award has a huge amount of history in the Oregon State Rugby Football Club and each award is an honor for the recipient.  Thank you to Jake Helbling and his roommates for allowing us to have the banquet at their house!

Congratulations to all the players on the team. You all put in a lot of hard work as OSU Division I, collegiate rugby players. You not only work hard at your studies and rugby practices, many of you also work outside of school to earn money for your tuition. Others give your time as officers to run the business of the Club.

A BIG thanks to all the Coaches who gave of their time (with no salary) to continue building the programs:

Coach Mark Webber

Assistant Coach John Queen

Assistant Coach Derek Jensen

Assistant Coach David Dickson

The majority of the roster this past year was underclassmen. Such a young team may not experience as much winning as we all would like, but the continued effort and the way the team conducted themselves made everyone proud! We tip our hats to you, and will be there to support you as you bring home the Conference Championship next year!
